Baruto out with knee injury

Despite his protestations that everything was alright after Sunday's loss to
Tosanoumi, Estonian Baruto's return to the top-makuuchi division lasted only
one day after he withdrew Monday with an injury.

The No. 14 maegashira, who returned from the juryo division with his second
title, pulled out with a recurrence of the left-knee injury he first
suffered as a No. 1 maegashira in September. This year, he has missed part
or all of two tournaments and never looked comfortable on the back foot.

A Nagoya doctor said the 22-year-old Onoe stable wrestler would need at
least a month to recover from the latest injury, but the fear is that one of
sumo's most popular and potentially successful wrestlers has stepped onto
the dohyo for the last time.
