The hospital gave the initial cause of death, as it has to, and the CT 
scan etc was conducted within 24 hours, at the request of the family -- 
or so it was reported in the Japanese media.

One thing to be careful of is the English translations;  these are 
usually done by inhouse translators employed by the newspaper or agency 
concerned on a "best that we can manage in a hurry" basis -- moreover,  
dictionary definitions are not necessarily one-to-one equivalents. I'm 
not saying this is the case here -- but the medical experts on this 
list would know more about these conditions than the person who did the 
translating.
