The writer should have read the Japanese articles he's clearly cribbing from a little more closely; the number of applicants *ín Haru basho* hasn't reached 100 in eight years, not the total number for a year. There were 113 recruits just two years ago, and 131 the year before. (108 and 121 if excluding foreigners.)
