Actually, I think they were doing it in mid- 2006. Minami thought it would
air in November and I scoured the MTV programming until the end of the year.
Then again, he may have said that they were going to film it in November.

Thanks for this, Joe. I'll give him a call and tell him it was on in the
states. Can you tell us when it airs? I'm not at home right
now and I want to be sure to watch when I get back to NY Tuesday.

        MTV has a show on called True Life.  In it they look into various
aspects of life from the banal (I'm a Jersey Shore Girl) to the
educational (I have Tourrette's Syndrome). 

        Yesterday they had an episode, I'm a Sumo Wrestler.  It was actually
quite interesting and they did a good job of staying away from the "fat
guys in diapers" angle.  In it they followed three guys; a 16 year old
who just started Amateur Sumo, a self-proclaimed "Biggest Sumo Fan in
the US" and a real rikishi in Japan. 

        This last was Minaminoshima.  It showed him as a low rank doing his
chores, him competing in Hon Basho in Tokyo getting KK, picking up the
new Banzuke and being promoted.  They didn't reference any divisions
but, from what I could tell, it seemed he was in Sandanme and promoted
to Makushita.
