As luck would have it, Taikomaru was fighting today. The bad news is - he
lost. The good news is that I rushed back to my hotel to publish the photos
I took. They can be found here:

Also, I spoke to Mr. Kawauchi, who is/was affiliated with the NHK English
language sumo broadcast (correct me if I'm wrong, as I know you will and
should). I asked about sekitorihood and baldness and whether one could reach
sekitori being totally bald. He said "I don't think so", which, to me, is
the Japanese equivalent of "no". But if a rikishi is already a sekitori, I
believe he stays there and is not automatically made to retire. Now, that
last statement is me speaking. Looking at Hakurozan's baldness pattern,
though, it does look that he will keep a "fringe" around the back of his
head, and so this will continue to be a puzzlement:-). But, hey, what do I
know about male pattern baldness?
Kotoinazawa did lose most of his hair while fighting, but is now completely
bald - and I don't think it's from shaving his scalp.
Enjoy the photos.
