Asashoryu beat Ama with the rare tottari kimarite to distance himself
from the rest of sanyaku as Chiyotaikai lost to Kyokutenho and
Kotomitsuki was defeated from ozeki Kaio against whom he actually still
has a 16-10 head-to-head record.

Tamakasuga still is undefeated, going to 7-0 with a win against
Tosanoumi, surpassing his best ever start (6-0 in Natsu 2005 - after
that he struggled to finish 8-7). The maegashira pursuers Toyonoshima
and Tamanoshima did better than the sanyaku ones to stay one win behins
the lead.

Tochiozan and Tochisakae lost to leave the sole juryo lead to Kobo who
beat Masatsukasa with a kotenage. Only two of the five pursuers won with
shin-sekitori Toyohibiki and Ryuo, Hakuho's heya-mate. Sumanofuji went
kyujo with a bruised eye, and he hopefully can come back as he showed
good sumo lately. Otherwise he'll drop back to makushita and will have
to attempt a ninth juryo promotion.
