(Just to stay off-topic) I remember that very well. It happened just
3 hours after I first set foot on Yokota. Nothing like a rocket attack
to wake you up after a 16-hour flight and 4-hour bus trip. :-o It kept
me on my toes for a bit, that's for sure.
The attacks turned out to be a disgruntled farmer flinging home-made
rockets,
as I recall. Of course, I'm not falling for that (probably true, but
lame)
story. I going with a much more believable (but still lame) Shukan
Post-style
version that it was actually a group from a rival heya trying to
interrupt
Akebono's workout routine using scare tactics (The Yokozuna used the gym
at
the air base). It was probably Takasago-beya... Yeah. They didn't have
Asashoryu, yet, so couldn't really put up much against the big guy. Just
Mitoizumi, really. Can't you just see a group of young rikishi, lead by
"Big Salt", lobbin' noisemakers over the fence? Hey, could've
happened...
Mitoizumi did have a pretty good underhand toss. A tossed M-80 could've
easily been mistaken for a rocket. :-p
