I always thought about renting a cell at the airport
but the price has been exorbiant with far less
features than people living in Japan have so I
hesitated doing so as I considered to be a bit of
rip-offs.

I used to use a pre-paid telelphone card but more and
more finding a public telephone booth is getting
difficult as Japan is a cell phone obsessed country.
Often the first thing you notice people do once they
get on a train is to check their e-mail on their cell.

I need to go to a hotel, train station or department
store just to use a phone and it was getting to be a
lot of hassle and waste of time.

Regardless of costs, one cannot really do without a
cell in Japan now.

Here's a page with a list of cell companies that you
can rent a phone at the airport.
