I remember a criminal lawyer saying when he has a weak
case, he provides a lot of facts that relate with the
case but nothing directly to with the core evidience
to somehow make jurors think that he is presenting a
reasonable argument.
And this second part has such a flimsy base that it's
almost laughable. The only "hard" cases of Yaocho they
came up with was Kotomitsuki and Tochiazuma (even then
they looked as if they were wavering in that
conviction but putting his interview). Both came out
of their own conjecture.
If there were so many fixed bouts not only by
Asashoryu but by the majority of Makuuchi rikishi,
where are the details? For instance which bouts by
Kaio and Chiyotaikai were Yaocho?
I saw a bout in which Chiyotaikai beat Asashoryu while
being pushed out of the dohyo on video many times. He
got the win because Asashoryu was falling as he was
pushing. But Chiyotaikai was just barely staying in
the dohyo for a microsecond (by slow-mo). This could
have gone either way. If this one was a Yaocho, don't
they want to make it more clear and decisive, rather
than something so close that they could get a mono-ii?
Since only Kyokutenzan was pointed out as a go-between
and no other rikishi was seen behaving suspicious, who
was doing it for Kaio, Chiyotaikai, Kotomitsuki,
Tochiazuma or others? If it was all him, he could
certainly not do anything else...besides he was only
seen talking to the yokozuna most of the time.
I think what they are not telling us speaks a volume
here. They simply could not find any hard evidence of
widespread Yaocho or else they reported.
Kaio with all his years of service can live
comfortably for the rest of his life as he has a
supporters club with some well financed backers.
Tochiazuma's debt is another meaningless bit as it
will be his home once he retires from active career as
he will inherit the heya from his father eventually.
Eveyone has a mortgage but if he is burdened with that
much money, he has less tax to pay and since he is
single and lives at home, his expenses are minimal, he
can easily get by. His heya has also deep connections
with business people.
I can go on and on but you get the picture. What they
gave us is a lot of smokes and they go running
screaming there is a raging fire because there is
smoke.
