Asa probably has his family stay in Mongolia because he doesn't want anyone messing with them, and wants to keep his private life private (can you imagine how much worse the feeding frenzy would have been if they'd been in Japan these last few months?)

It's really no different from some actor who has a solid career/life in Hollywood, but his family lives on the ranch in Utah or Idaho or anywhere else *but* SoCal. When they were married, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore had a house in the small town on the east coast I was living in at the time (his hometown). It wasn't at all unusual to see them around and about (the locals treated them like "regular people").  Seems to me that, unless they're "working", most celebs just want to be left alone to life their (sometimes opulent) lives, like everyone else.
