I'd like to add this admonition.

The ONLY effective response to a flame is silence.  In any flame war,
much of the useless traffic turns out to be objections to the war!
And flamers feed on responses.  Any responses.

So silence silence silence.  I know it's hard - but it's the only way.

(Of course, direct responses to the flamer are your business, not the lists).
