Injured Takamisakari has been participating in the jungyo. No keiko, but
lending of chest to young rikishi and doing the torikumi afternoon
matches. "As long as the fans are happy, it's great. When I get back to
Tokyo I'll go to a hospital and rest my body. I'd be happy if I could
start keiko with Sekitori when the banzuke is announced (December
20th)..", he said.
3rd day. Asa had 14 bouts, all against Kakuryuu, won them all. Tsuriotoshi, Yaguranage,
etc.. "Well, it's tasty.. It's like I want to eat it.. that's how much
I love it..", he said when asked about his feeling on the dohyo. He is
having a bit of a problem with his right ankle which is taped firmly. "
It will be cured.. If I get on the dohyo I'll get used to it..", he
said. "This is the way to make a comeback.. I couldn't do the thing I
like to do the most.. It's been a while since I participated in a
jungyo and it felt good", he added. He was seen smiling and waving at
fans who shouted encouraging words at him. "The fans have been very
nice to me and have received me with applause, which is great.", he
concluded. His plans are to return to Tokyo, rest a few days, and start
training at Takasago beya.
Yesterday it was Hakuhou's turn to win by yorikiri. In any case, there
were three days of winter jungyo this year. With all the publicity,
there has been a soar in interest, and there will be at least 20 days
of jungyo next year, say people in the know. Phone calls are coming in
from all over the place asking to save a spot for their city or town
for next year. A truly unexpected turn of events from what started off
as a big problem.
I posted this a while back, but just to remind those that forgot:
<<As per the demand of the Ministry of education etc.., the Kyokai has
decided on three outside people who will be members of the new
committee that will see to it that unnecessary punishment and resulting death won't happen again. Touno Takeo
(73) of the Japan Sumo Renmei (amateur sumo association), Yamaguchi
Kousuke(弘典?) of the Japanese Pro-Sports Association (74) and the Keio
University sports medical center's Ounishi Shouhei (大西祥平, 55). They may
be adding some more people soon. The three will join the committee
members of 8 riji for their next meeting on the 19th.
The
temporary name of the committee is something like "Investigative
commssion relating to the leadership of rikishi", or "ICRTTLOR" --
力士の指導に関する検討委員会
It should be: "Rage Of The Family Leads Minister to Address Outsiders", or
"ROTFLMAO"
>>
The committee has announced its first findings-the result of the questionnaires handed out to the 53 heyas.
Q: "Are you using tools like a baseball bat to instruct your deshi?"
A:
24 said yes. When asked if they ever applied these "tools" in the past,
25 more said yes, making that a whopping total of 92% of heyas
admitting to using this "method". OTOH, when asked if they think they
can practice leadership without the aid of these "tools", 58% said they
could. Probably the same 29 heya who said they don't use this system
any more at present..
Have you ever seen fights or scenes of abuse at the heya? 17 heyas said yes.
Do
you adhere by anti-smoking and anti-drinking laws considering the
minors of the heya? 15 heyas said they tend to overlook them.
Well, it seems they are now assuming the part of a "poor man's YDC", as
expected. Member cartoonist Yaku Mitsuru has warned that Asashouryuu's
tsuriotoshis during keiko are dangerous. These tsuriotoshis have been
shown quite a bit on prime time TV these last few days, and seemed to
have pissed the cartoonist off. "I know it's a legit move, but I have
spoken to some Oyakatas that say it's just useless and dangerous. This
isn't the sort of keiko you should be doing against lower rankers!", he
said. "That's right! When the top guys do it, the bottom guys learn
from it and do the same and that starts an inevitable chain of
events..", added Mr. Yamamoto from NHK, another "civilian" from the
committee.
"It
is a "nukiage" technique, but when your opponent stops using force, it
is potentially dangerous. I will take this up at the coming shisho-kai
on the 21st..", said/agreed Chairman of ROTFLMAO Isenoumi Oyakata.
Do we have a new Ms. Uchidate now? Have the Kyokai created another watch dog monster , for good or bad? Do we really need this?
