Wow, so Asashoryu has made a public apology, and a statement that he will participate in the future. Did I miss that entirely? That would be a pity because this would be exactly what I have been waiting for in the last 30+ days.

Or did you mix up point 2 and 3 above, telling us that there is no need at this time for a public apology? An apology would have been the very best thing that would have softened his detractors. If he had done this (preferably before that mental episode), we would talk about the imminent basho instead of this whole mess.
