Just to make the xenophobes feel better, how about that thought:

The NSK really does not want a foreigner to surpass Taiho's record, and have
his name in the books 
for a long, long time.
They were just looking for an opportunity to get him, and Shoryu provided
them with one.

And the conspiracy goes on....

Unfortunately, IMO, I feel that Asashoryu will go intai. I hope I am wrong.
