No offense meant here Dale, but I have to disagree,
Asa is under the delusion that he is bigger than the
sport. I've got news for him, there was sumo before he
came along and there'll be sumo after he goes away. He
is physically one of, if not, the best ever in the
sport but that doesn't mean you treat people
disrespectfully, and I see that he does that on a
regular basis. He only does what he wants to do and
can't be bothered otherwise. All he had to do was
clear his trip through Kyokai and I'm sure everything
would have been fine. Instead he lied and deceived the
very organization that gave him the opportunity to
make his place in history. It's cold and callous (sp?)
and if this was the first incident, I might
understand. But it's not so I'm with the Kyokai on
this one. If the Kyokai had continued to let him get
away with this nonsense, all that I hold dear about
sumo would go the way of Michael Vick, Floyd Landis
and that NBA referee. Tradition is important to sumo
and one of the reasons I like the sport so much. Until
Asashoryu, Roho and Kotooshu, there were no too big
for my britches waa babies in the sport. Do I think
this will change Asashoryu? No! Does he deserve this
punishment? Yes. Will he come back wanting to win even
more? yes Will he get punished next time? I sure do
hope so, because if he doesn't, I don't know what I'll
do. I will have lost my last refuge.
