Oga, at J13E, went on to do 10-5 kachikoshi that tournament and advanced
to J7W! But last tournament he was 6-9 makekoshi. That has pushed him
down to J10E for the upcoming tournament which begins this weekend.
Still, every tournament he is setting a new record for the bow-ritual
performer. I wonder if he will be pressured to abandon his post. He
would be justified, I would think, to insist that he has earned the
right to keep it as his own for the time being. The bow performer is
the only non-sekitori allowed to have an Oichi hairdo. I presume that
now that he is in Juryo his life is simpler since he doesn't have to
have a quick hair fix right after his match to prepare him to do the
ritual, or if he does it is just to tidy up, not to convert one style
into another.
