The YDC soken (training session ) was held at the Kokugikan training
institute today. Hakuhou went 9-6, mostly against Kaiou and Kotooushuu.
He seemed to have a hard time against Rohou, Kokkai and Baruto. " These
up and coming guys are getting stronger every day!", he warned. In one
bout against Rohou, the hot-headed Russian returned an extra push after
being beaten by Hakuhou. When asked about this, Kitanoumi rijicho said
"He showed no respect to the Ozeki and should reflect on that.. ", but
when asked generally about today's soken , he added: "The young guys are
really genki, and it was a good session!".
The Yokozuna was a poor 4-6, losing 4 bouts consecutively to Baruto on
the way. "I think I may have overdone it a bit.. (referring to his neck
injury). Baruto is strong. His sumo is different.. My showing was
miserable. I want to do strong keiko, but I am not listening to my
body", said Asashouryuu. "I'm happy the keiko is over..the Yokozuna is
quick and strong", said Baruto. Miyabiyama did a small number of bouts,
Tochiazuma only went against the Maegashira rikishi. Rohou and new
Komusubi Kokkai looked healthy and ready. The only Japanese sanyaku
rikishi on the dohyo were Ozeki Kaiou and Sekiwake Miyabiyama, as Ozeki
Chiyotaikai and Komusubi Kisenosato were absent. "The Japanese rikishi
show no ambition..", lamented YDC female member Ms. Uchidate.
