Although Miyagino Oyakata is putting up an optimistic front, it's
looking more and more like kyujo for Hakuhou. Sources close to the heya
are quoted as saying the "light surgery" lasted two hours and consisted
of inserting a bolt to straighten the toe, which will be in place for a
year. This type of injury usually takes 3 weeks to heal, they say.
KaioU went to Kokonoe beya's lodgings for degeiko today. He had 15 bouts
with Chiyotaikai going 8-7. When he was on the defensive, his lower back
couldn't stand the pressure. But when he got his favorite hidariyotsu
hold, he showed some powerful yorikiris. "I think I'm moving OK, but
I've still got a long way to go", he said.
The winner of the 84th annual All Japan college championships was
Nichidai's 4th year Mori (1.82 meters, 150 kilos), last year's runner-up
( lost to current Makushita Shimoda), who beat another Nichidai-er
Ishihara by yorikiri. Tomorrow is the finals of the team championships.
Now that he is a college Yokozuna, Mori is entitled to a Makushita
tsukedashi starting point between M15 and 16. "It's been my dream since
I entered college, " he said. He intends to enter Ozumo together with
finalist Ishihara.
