So you say that you don't have time to play in the sumo games that
require you to participate once each day? Or even those that require
you to participate once per basho? Well, how about a game where you
only need to participate once per year? And that participation is
limited to typing in one rikishi's shikona?
>From the maker of the mediocre MAQC comes the exciting new sumo game,
"Guess the 2007 Sumo Champ!"
The rules are simple. Asashoryu is the inaugural "Sumo Champ" going
into 2007 by virtue of his yusho last basho. The Sumo Champ defends
his title during every single honbasho match of all tournaments. The
first time Asashoryu loses to anybody in 2007, the rikishi who defeats
him becomes the new Sumo Champ, and defends the title from that day
onward.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: guess who will be the
Sumo Champ at the end of next year's Kyushu Basho. That is all. It
could end up being Asashoryu, it could end up being Hakuho...it could
end up being a rikishi who is currently in Sandanme. Choose which
rikishi it will be. It is that simple!
Some rules to fill in the gaps:
1) The Sumo Champ will defend the title whenever he wrestles in a
honbasho, both during regular and playoff matches. The rikishi who
defeats the reigning Sumo Champ will become the new Sumo Champ.
2) The Sumo Champ can lose his title by fusenpai.
3) If the Sumo Champ goes kyujo or intai before the start of the next
tournament, he will surrender the Sumo Champ title to the rikishi who
is one rank above him on the banzuke at the time the kyujo/intai is
announced, or to the #2 ranked rikishi if the Sumo Champ is the top
ranked rikishi in sumo (most likely in the case of Asashoryu).
4) If nobody selects the correct Sumo Champ, the winner will be the
person who selects the rikishi who is closest in current rank to the
actual Sumo Champ at the time of Kyushu 2007 basho (ie, if Baruto is
the final Sumo Champ at M2W, and the closest selection is a M2E
Miyabiyama, then the person who selected Miyabiyama will be considered
the winner)
5) If more than one person correctly guess the Sumo Champ at the end
of Kyushu 2007, the tiebreaker will be selecting the day and Basho in
which the final Sumo Champ wins his title. (ie, Kyushu Basho Day 13)
6) If there is still a tie, the final playoff will be "rock paper
scissors" via email.
To enter the "Guess the 2007 Sumo Champ!" game, send an email to
"joepetrow at gmail.com" with "[gt2007sc]" in the subject header, with
your pick for the final Sumo Champ and day/basho he will win his
title. Selection deadline is January 6th, 2007.
Good luck!
