It occurred to me in reading this thread that the mosquito gets to know its
subject in a way that more polite and reticent insects never will. This may
well lead to insights that other historians would overlook or never even
consider. I make this observation without moral judgment. As you note, none
of us here knows the author personally, and so cannot judge his motivations,
only his writing.

As a former journalism major, I personally found a line I was not willing to
cross between "the public's right to know" and "invasion of privacy",
resulting in a change of career paths that I do not regret to this day.
