"your voice for educational
and recreational activities
for children and adults in West Laurel"
Introduction
The West Laurel Recreation
Council (WLRC) is a self-supporting group of interested volunteers, offering
various educational, social, and recreational programs to the citizens
of West Laurel. All the great Rec. Council activities and events
happen because someone in the neighborhood "makes it happen." We
get lots of good publicity, some administrative support, and can borrow
equipment from the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission
(MNCPPC), but most staffing is provided by neighborhood volunteers.
There are lots more
fun activities and events that are waiting for YOU to volunteer.
Come join the WLRC and we'll help turn your ideas into something fun or
educational for West Laurel kids, teens, singles, parents, or seniors.
You can help year-round or just for the specific event/activity that interest
you. You can also help behind the scenes from your home without having
to attend WLRC meetings. For more information on some specific needs,
click on Volunteer Opportunities.
Most of our funding
comes from the classes we offer in the West Laurel Community Building.
97% of each dollar collected goes into programs for the Community. Annually,
the Council plans, finances and/or sponsors approximately 25 programs for
the young and old of West Laurel. We sponsor several programs at Bond Mill
& Scotchtown Elementary Schools. Programs for children and adults
at the West Laurel Community Building and recreational programs meeting
the needs of all, at several locations. Over 3100 children and adults attended
Council Programs in 1998.
The Council meets monthly
at the West Laurel Community Building. The public is invited to attend
each meeting. If you would like to join in on the fun of our Council,
please stop by our next meeting. Call Kim Passmore at 301-725-3157 for
the date and time.
Next
Meeting
Recreation Council meetings
are scheduled for the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm
at the Community Building.
The West Laurel Recreation
Council would like to invite everyone to attend their meeting. Come
and bring ideas on programs and events you would like to see the Rec. Council
work on this year. We are always looking for interested volunteers.
If you would like to
teach a class or workshop, we would like to hear your ideas. Call
Kim Passmore at 301-725-3157 for more information.
