Opportunities for Volunteers

The West Laurel Recreation Council is always on the lookout for people to help.  Teens can earn community service hours required for graduation while helping and having fun.  Mom and/or Dad can help to make a really great event for your family.  Grandparents can help too.  You can help out at home in your spare time, you can attend only meetings that fit your schedule to help plan events, or you can help at the programs/activities.  You can help "behind the scenes" or "share the spotlight."

We regularly need people to make and put up posters in the neighborhood to tell everyone about coming events.  You can help, whether you're an artist or just someone who can drive or walk around the neighbor and put up posters.
Often we're asked, "Why aren't there more activities for teens or pre-teens.  What's lacking is someone to help organize activities.   If this might be you, please volunteer!
The WLRC would like to improve the timeliness and visibility our publicity.  To accomplish this we are seeking an individual to help direct and coordinate publicity.  If you have ideas how we can more effectively communicate with West Laurel families about our programs, the Rec. Council will help find volunteers to help carry them out.
If anyone would like to teach a beginning knitting or crochet class at the WL Community building, Please call Kim Passmore.
If you or someone you know would like to teach a class or workshop for children or adults please call Kim Passmore at 301-725-3157.
The WLRC is looking for someone to decorate one or more of the trophy cases in the West Laurel Community Building.
Can you make telephone calls or write letters?   Can you shop for food, craft materials, or other supplies?   Can you refill a punch bowl or snack tray or take photographs?  Of course you can help!
The WLRC is looking for new members.  If you want to help us bring additional programs to the community, this is the opportunity for you.  Especially if you feel that the present programs are not representing a portion of the West Laurel population which you know or represent.
We need individuals to wear various theme costumes for WLRC events, such as a
"bunny" for Easter Egg hunt,
"snowman" for the Winter Holiday party.

The wearer should be from 5 foot 8 inches to 6 foot tall and be willing to walk around the event greeting people, especially children and posing for pictures.  Not even your kids will know it's you inside, unless you tell them.  If you  are interested or want more information, please contact on of the WLRC members
